Summary & Overview

  • The project area hosts a variety of rock types, which include metavolcanics, BIF, metasediments and granite.
  • Gold mineralization can be found associated with Kavirondian-age metasediments in addition to narrow quartz veins and stringers, within a volcanic host.
  • No geophysical data is available.
  • Follow-up trenching and RAB drilling is planned for selected areas.

Regional Geology:

The Kibara Project Area is located within the SW extension of the Musoma-Mara greenstone belt of NW Tanzania. Producing gold mines within this belt include Nyabigena and Nyabirama (Placer Dome), in addition to Buhemba (Meremeta).

Principal Structures:

Bedding is not obvious, but a weak NW trending structural fabric is observed in outcrop, with moderate dips of 50-60 degrees to the SE. The absence of any airborne magnetic data has hindered any regional structural interpretation.

Geology of the Prospecting Areas:

Geological interpretation of one license indicates the presence of four main geological units: dacite (feldspar porphyritic intermediate to felsic rock) outcrops over the hills in the central and western parts; intermediate tuff and metasediments (conglomerates, grits, lithic sandstones and minor shales) outcrop on Nyakona and Mwigundi hills, and believed to be Kavirondian in age; a small granite outcrop on the south flank of Nyakona hill. Granite is interpreted to underlie approximately 50% of the license, but most of this is covered by sandy soils.

Some 30% of one license is covered by mbuga and transported soils, with the remainder consisting of granitic and lateritic soils. Granite is exposed on the Mirambo hills, with basalt and andesite being exposed along road cuts and low-lying hills.

Reconnaissance Sampling:

  • Mini BLEG soil sampling survey (2002) returned anomalous values including 27ppb Au which was the highest value on the Nyakona hill.
  • Follow-up termite mound and grab sampling (October 2003), reported anomalous average values of 49ppb and 6.67g/t Au, respectively, on the same hill.
  • 12 grab samples collected on Nyakona hill (November 2004), were found to contain a visual estimate of up to 40% Cu, and encouraging gold values. Results of Grab samples as follows:

      2.20g/t Au, <1% Cu
      1.45g/t Au, 1.25% Cu
      0.73g/t Au, <1% Cu
      2.80g/t Au, 17.15% Cu
      1.25g/t Au, <1% Cu
      0.03g/t Au, <1% Cu
      3.44g/t Au, 6.61% Cu
      3.27g/t Au, 5.70% Cu
      0.15g/t Au, <1% Cu
      0.02g/t Au, <1% Cu
      0.09g/t Au, <1% Cu

  • Conventional soil sampling to cover Nyakona hill yielded maximum values of 0.198ppm and 2760ppm, respectively.
  • Some 13 auger holes were drilled to bedrock (November 2004). Results pending.
  • Several grab samples were collected from artisinal miner's muckpile as follows:

      1.84g/t Au Quartz vein with boxworks after sulphides
      1.07g/t Au Quartz vein with boxworks after sulphides
      1.67g/t Au Quartz vein
      6.10g/t Au Felsic volcanic with quartz stringers
      18.75g/t Au Argillite/BIF with quartz stringers
