Regional Geology : The Manonga Project Area is located amongst the scattered greenstone fragments, to the north of the Nzega greenstone belt. The area is almost entirely covered by mbuga, derived from Lake Manonga. An interpretation of the airborne magnetic and radiometric data (November 2004), suggests that the project area is underlain by either sedimentary or volcanoclastic horizons, with a N-S trending diabase dyke inferred towards the extreme western portion of the project area. Highly magnetic signatures associated with strong negatives, are indicative of mafic intrusives (gabbro or diorite) in places. The initial geological model for the area favours a sedimentary host, which is common in the nearby Nzega greenstone belt. It is important to note that Golden Pride Mine (Resolute) -- with a current resource of 2.70 million ozs @ 3.0g/t Au, is sedimentary-hosted, and located within the Nzega greenstone belt. The Project Area falls within the Tanzanian "diamond corridor", with the Mwadui Mine being some 40km to the N. Both non-diamondiferous and diamondiferous kimberlites have been reported both N and S, and within the Project Area. Principal Structures : With the absence of surface outcrop, principal geological structures have been inferred from airborne geophysical data. Lithological layering would appear to be striking almost E-W in the central portion of the project area, with a strike change towards the NE in the western parts of the project area, and ESE towards the eastern parts of the project area. Inferred shear/fault-related lineaments have been recognized, which follow a NE trend throughout the project area. Geology of the Prospecting Areas : No detailed geological information is available for any of the individual prospecting licenses, as a hand-auger sampling program to penetrate through mbuga cover to reach bedrock, is still pending. Geophysics: The area has been covered by airborne geophysics (West German 1987 Program)
